Womb Cleansing Ritual: Reclaim Your Energy & Embody Feminine Sovereignty

If you feel emotionally heavy, disconnected, or not fully rooted in your body, this space is an invitation to return to yourself.

In womb work, a cleansing ritual is a way of releasing what you've been carrying, and coming back to clarity, self-trust and stillness through your body.

Why I wrote this

There was a time in my life when I wasn't discerning with my energy. I let people in the way our culture teaches us to: lightly, casually, as if intimacy were dinner with a friend.

It isn't.

When I finally saw it, I felt a deep sorrow. I had abandoned myself.

So I did this ritual, to come back to myself. Not because something was wrong with me, but because I needed a way to feel it, and let it go.

I wish someone had told me sooner that what we let in matters, and that we can clear it. Not only through a stone, but through our thoughts and attitudes too.

Still, nature has her ways of supporting us. For me, black obsidian became a reminder of sovereignty: something to hold when I wanted to remember that I choose who I open to.

Not ready for a yoni egg? Begin here.

You don't need a stone to begin. Place one hand on your womb and one on your heart. Close your eyes and take three slow breaths. Ask your womb what she needs. That is already womb work.

If you'd like company, my free Isis meditation is a 20-minute guided journey into the Temple of Isis, to help you slow down, soften and be held by Isis, goddess of healing, magic and motherhood. In the ancient Egyptian story, Isis is the one who gathers what was scattered. Sometimes that is exactly what coming home to yourself feels like.

What is a black obsidian yoni egg?

A black obsidian yoni egg is a stone used in womb practices to support grounding, awareness and release. Obsidian is volcanic glass, revered in many traditions as a mirror of the inner world. It is said to:

  • bring unconscious material to the surface

  • support emotional clarity

  • ground the body

Used with intention, it can be a way of reconnecting with your womb space and letting go of tension or emotional residue you've carried.

Care & gentleness before you begin

Come to this softly. Nothing here is required.

Check your stone for chips or cracks before each use, and retire it if you find any. This practice is commonly advised against during pregnancy, postpartum, with an IUD, with an active infection or with pelvic pain, and it isn't for your bleeding days. If you're unsure, speak with your doctor first. Stop if you feel any pain or unease. You never have to work with the stone internally: resting it on your lower belly is just as valid. If the practice brings up difficult memories, go slowly, and consider the support of a therapist or someone you trust.

The ritual, step by step

1. Cleanse your yoni egg
Wash it with mild, unscented soap and warm water, rinse well and dry. Then, if you wish, cleanse it energetically: smudge it with sage or palo santo, or rest it under the moonlight.

2. Set your intention
Hold it in your hands for a moment and arrive in your body. Bring the egg to your heart. Decide clearly what you are ready to release or shift. Keep it simple and grounded:
"I release what I no longer carry."
"I return to myself."

3. Prepare your space
Create a calm, undisturbed environment. This is not about performance. It is about presence.

4. Insert the yoni egg, or don't
When your body feels ready and you feel called, gently insert the egg. Move slowly and stay connected to your breath. If you'd rather not, rest the stone on your lower belly instead. Both are the practice.

5. Connect and release
Sit or lie down. Place your hands on your womb and bring your awareness inward. You can breathe deeply, visualise release, or gently engage your pelvic muscles. Let your body guide the process.

6. Complete and cleanse again
When you feel complete, gently remove the egg if you used it. Wash it again with soap and warm water, rinse and dry. Drink water, rest, or journal if needed.

When to do it

You can do this whenever it feels right. You may also follow the moon for added depth:

  • New Moon: intention, stillness

  • Full Moon: awareness, clarity

  • Waning Moon: release and letting go

Skip it during your bleed, as your body is already in a natural clearing phase.

Optional: prepare with a yoni steam

If you'd like to soften your womb space first, a gentle yoni steam can help you arrive. Read the care notes in the guide before you begin: Vaginal Steam Recipe: How to Yoni Steam at Home.

And if you'd like to work with specific herbs for your steam or tea, my guide to 9 Womb Herbs for Tea, Yoni Steaming & Ritual goes deeper into which ones to choose and why.

Why the womb, intimacy and energy are linked

Your womb is more than a reproductive organ. In womb work, she is your creation centre: where life can be created, and also where direction, clarity and creative power take form.

In womb work, sexual energy is understood there as life force: the same energy that creates life also fuels creativity, magnetism and direction. When it's channelled consciously, it supports clarity and aligned relationships. When it's scattered, we can feel depleted. This is not about judgment. It is about awareness.

Our culture treats intimacy as something casual, like meeting a friend for dinner. It can be light and joyful. But intimacy is also relational and energetic, and your body registers what you allow in. Many women find that unresolved or unclear connections leave them heavy, unclear, or disconnected from themselves. Not because something is wrong with you, but because there was never a moment to feel it and let it go.

Honouring your womb means recognising:

  • you choose who you open to

  • you choose what you engage with

  • you choose what you carry forward

This is not about restriction. It is about discernment, self-responsibility, and leadership over your energy. You choose partners and experiences that reflect respect, presence, emotional availability and shared responsibility. You don't override your body. You stay connected to your intuition. You stop abandoning your needs and losing yourself in others.

You stay with yourself.

Reclaim your energy

Your feminine energy is not something you need to find. It is already within you: something you reclaim and learn to stay connected to. Your womb holds your creative power, your intuition and your inner direction. When you reconnect with this space, you become clearer, more grounded, more self-led.

If emotions arise, such as regret, shame or old memories, meet them with awareness, not judgment. Not everything needs to be analysed. Some things simply need to be felt, and let go. If they feel too heavy, please reach out to a therapist or someone you trust. You don't have to carry this alone.

Every experience you've had has brought you here.

And from here, you get to choose differently.

A deeper path into feminine embodiment

Womb work is a return to relationship with yourself, your body and your inner world.
