Full Moon Release Ritual: A Guide for Every House

Woman in a white dress standing on the beach, the ocean and full moon behind her

I remember walking home alone one evening as a child, watching my feet until I reached a clearing, and there she was. Right in the middle of the street, right in front of me, the Full Moon in her full power and bloom. I stopped completely, struck by her. What a majestic being.

I didn't know it then, but that was the beginning of a relationship that's shaped my whole practice. Women have always been deeply connected to the moon, and working with her, setting intentions at the New Moon, releasing at the Full Moon, is powerful on its own. It's good practice, and it's widely recommended for good reason.

But what took my own practice deeper was learning to release according to my birth chart, according to the specific house the moon is activating for me each time. That's when it stopped being general, and became mine.

What the Full Moon Actually Does

The Full Moon doesn't just illuminate what needs releasing. She calls it up.

Think of the tides. The moon pulls entire oceans, makes them rise and fall, without touching them at all. We're made mostly of water too. So it's no stretch to feel that her pull moves something in us as well, our emotions rising the same way the sea does, whatever's been sitting quietly underneath finally stirred to the surface.

Her light is at its peak, and something in that peak makes what's been sitting quietly in you, a feeling, a pattern, a belief that's run its course, ready to actually move. Not just visible. Ready.

So I write it down. What I'm releasing, plainly, in my own words. I read it aloud, so I can feel it land. Then I burn it, in a fireproof container, somewhere ventilated. There's nothing left afterward, and that's the whole point. Once it's ash, it isn't carried into the next cycle. It's gone, because she took it.

Making It Personal: Releasing Through Your Own Chart

Releasing at the Full Moon is powerful on its own. But if you know your birth chart, you can go a layer deeper: notice which house the Full Moon falls in for you, and let that shape what you're releasing.

Each house in astrology speaks to a different part of life, your identity, your relationships, your career, your inner world. When you align your release with the house that's actually activated, the ritual becomes more specific to you, rather than general.

If you don't know your birth time, don't let that stop you. You can still do this ritual simply and powerfully, in fact, when it comes to release work, your own intuition is often the most powerful tool you have. Write what wants to be released. Trust what rises. That's enough.

Let It Be Ash

Candles burning beside sage, set up for a ritual space

That's the ritual. Name it, read it aloud if you want to feel it land, burn it, and let it go, fully, out of the next cycle. Nothing to keep, nothing to revisit. Just space, made clean, for whatever comes next.

Want This as a Guide to Keep?

If you'd rather have this as something printable, to light a candle and sit with each month, you can download the same ritual as a free PDF guide.
